The Pods leisure complex fully opens
North Lincolnshire Council (NLC) has announced that all leisure facilities at The Pods - a £21m complex designed by Andrew Wright - have now fully opened in Scunthorpe.
S&P Architects worked on the scheme as delivery architects, while Bowmer and Kirkland built the facility. Buro Happold and ARCADIS were also involved with the development. Comprising five timber and glazed geodesic domes, The Pods features an 85-station, split-level fitness suite; an eight-lane swimming pool and learner pool; and two exercise studios.
A six-court sports hall; a sauna; a steamroom; and a spa bath are also among the facilities, along with a café with outdoor terrace, function rooms and wet and dry changing areas. The building has also been designed to be a sustainable venue, with an "Excellent" BREEAM rating and a number of eco-friendly measures included in its construction.
NLC deputy leader John Briggs said: "It shows a real commitment to improving sport and leisure in North Lincolnshire and I'm very proud of everyone who has been involved in the project."
