Fitness trainer to the stars launches boutique gym in PLP Architecture's 'co-living' building

by Deven Pamben | 03 Jan 2018
With Enrgym I’ve used my 20 years of experience listening to customers on what works and doesn’t with gyms
– Steve Halsall, founder, Enrgym

Celebrity personal trainer Steve Halsall has opened a 3,500sq ft (325sq m) boutique health club in a co-living building in north-west London.

Enrgym, in Old Oak, Willesden, is free to use for people living in the complex, which has been developed by property company The Collective using a 'co-living' concept described as "a new way to live".

The design of the building, created by PLP Architecture, takes the form of two slim overlapping volumes. A central core increases opportunities for interaction between residents and makes circulation between floors as simple as possible, bringing people together throughout the communal kitchens, dining rooms and lounges.

The structure is clad almost entirely in glass, which reflects the lighting conditions at any given time of day. According to the design team, "its luminescent form shines on the skyline as a beacon of the area’s regeneration, and as a thesis for the future of collective living."

Leisure amenities include a cinema, sports bar, spa, games room, library and roof gardens.

Enrgym is housed next to a co-working space, restaurant and retail zone within the large podium that supports the two volumes above. The health club features generous floor to floor heights and transparent materials

Halsall, who has trained comedians, pop stars, actors and film directors, said: “With Enrgym I’ve used my 20 years of experience listening to customers on what works and doesn’t with gyms, and I’ve tried to create the perfect environment for our customers.

“In partnership with The Collective, we’re now looking to expand to other sites in the UK.”

Halsall received support from NatWest for the project.
