Vietnamese folklore inspires aquarium by Legacy Entertainment
Legacy Entertainment has designed a 27,500sq m (296,000sq ft) aquarium called The Sea Shell for Phu Quoc island, Vietnam. The building will open early in 2020.
Habitats will provide animals with ample space to ensure their wellbeing, while the life support systems will be provided by Advanced Aquarium Technologies.
The interior experience, created by designer James Hampton, will take guests on a journey through five galleries, each relating to different parts of the world, with programming providing education about the waters surrounding Vietnam.
The building will be shaped like a turtle and Legacy told CLAD that the facility’s design was borne out of the desire to do something authentically tied to Vietnamese culture, while also creating a signature building for Phu Quoc island.
"In Vietnam, even before working on this project, we had been fascinated by Vietnamese mythology relating to turtles," said Taylor Jeffs, president and chief creative officer of Legacy Entertainment. "So when this project began, it was one of the first ideas we homed in on."
The project began in September 2018 and the Sea Shell is anticipated to open mid-2020.
