Six new W hotels set for 2011

Starwood's design-led brand W Hotels Worldwide has revealed plans for the opening of six new W Hotels in 2011.

With the brand expected to reach more than 50 hotels by the end of 2012, this month will see the opening of the W Taipei, designed by GA Design International and incorporating a Zigelbaum + Coelho-created interactive chandelier; and the 10-storey W London in the city's Leicester Square. The 40th hotel of the brand globally, the latter was designed by London-based Jestico + Whiles, with interiors by Concrete. March will see the launch of both the W St. Petersburg, featuring architecture by Grigoriev + Partners and interior design by Milan-based Antonio Citterio; and the W Retreat & Spa Bali-Seminyak, a partnership with SCDA Design International and AB Concepts Hong Kong.

Opening in December and occupying a 1870s Haussman-era building, the W Paris-Opéra has been designed by Rockwell Group Europe; while the W Guangzhou in southern China will incorporate architecture by Hong-Kong based Rocco Design and interiors by Yabu Pushelberg. Eva Ziegler, global brand leader of W Hotels and Le Méridien, said: "Design has always been an integral part of the W brand and as it continues to expand we have evolved our design approach to include contextual insights that lead to locally relevant designs bound together by W's DNA."
