Plans revealed for future of Hampstead Heath
The City of London Corporation has held a public consultation on its 20-year vision for the Parliament Hill area of Hampstead Heath.
A number of plans have been outlined for the area known as 'the Parliament Hill triangle' which the corporation hopes to implement over the next two decades. Proposals that went to consultation include planting schemes which would see the reintroduction of native trees and shrubs, improving the lido and play facilities, and updating the athletics track pavilion.
Land Use Consultants (LUC) has been leading the project, working with architects and designers on plans to restore a rural feel to an area of the 791-acre heath used for municipal purposes. Dominic Cole, LUC principal, said: "We steered the physical side of the vision, and how the heath should look. We've worked with the public, who see what the process is."
A number of organisations who use the park were involved in contributing towards the masterplan, ranging from cycling groups to ecological societies. The City of London Corporation has already pledged £1.425m towards the work, and an application will be made to the Heritage Lottery Fund's Parks for People programme. Cole said: "An application will be made to the Heritage Lottery Fund at the end of September. We're hoping to continue to advise on the implementation of the masterplan."
