New vision unveiled for central Southampton
Southampton city centre is to undergo a radical transformation over the next 25 years under a new vision drawn up by David Lock Associates and unveiled by the local authority.
The proposals include the development of a new Station Quarter and a revitalised Fruit and Vegetable Market area, as well as a new business district and a "world-class waterfront".
Southampton City Council's (SCC) vision also outlines the £175m Cultural Quarter plans, which are centred around the newly-repaved Guildhall Square.
SCC leader Royston Smith said: "We are about to consult with residents on the single largest development project we have ever seen in the city.
"The masterplan provides Southampton with a very clear picture as to how the city centre could be shaped, so that it can enjoy a prosperous and exciting future."
