New leisure centre opens in Brighouse
A new £5.6m swimming pool and fitness centre has opened in Brighouse, West Yorkshire - four years after the town's former pool complex closed.
Designed by Saunders Boston and built by Willmott Dixon, the new facility has double the swimming space of its predecessor - 432sq m (4,650sq ft) and boasts a 25m, six-lane main pool. Other facilities include a 20m learner pool, a 65-station fitness suite and a multi-purpose studio, as well as changing facilities and a refreshment area.
The Brighouse complex is one of two to be delivered as part of Calderdale Council's £10.5m investment in new-build facilities; the second is due to open in Sowerby Bridge next month. Pauline Nash, the council's cabinet member for stronger and safer communities, said: "The new leisure centre is a real boost for Brighouse and the surrounding area.
"Families and people of all ages can enjoy the fantastic new swimming pool, state of the art gym and fitness suite."
