New Pritzker Architecture Prize Jury chair named
– Hyatt Foundation chairman and president Tom Pritzker
The Hyatt Foundation, the sponsor of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, has appointed a new jury chair for the award, following the retirement of Glenn Murcutt.
Justice Stephen Breyer, who has been a member of the Jury since 2011, has been named as the new chair.
The American lawyer and associate justice of the US Supreme Court has a long history in architecture, having worked closely with famed US architect Harry Cobb.
In 1990, Breyer was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. In 1994, President Bill Clinton made him a Supreme Court Justice.
“It is with great pleasure that we designate Justice Breyer as jury chair,” said Hyatt Foundation chairman and president Tom Pritzker. “His devotion to civic-minded architecture underscores the mission of the Prize and his unparalleled ability to guide a group deliberation is essential in creating a unified voice within this diverse and international panel of jurors.”
The 2019 award jury will include architectural critic André Corrêa do Lago, 2007 Pritzker Laureate Richard Rogers, 2010 Pritzker Laureate Kazuyo Sejima and 2012 Pritzker Laureate Wang Shu.
