Marriott signs up to New York's tallest hotel
Marriott International and Granite Broadway Development have signed a franchise deal for a new 68-storey property in New York, US, which will be the city's tallest hotel building.
Two different hotels will be housed in the building - a 378-bedroom Courtyard by Marriott hotel and a 261-bedroom Residence Inn hotel - at 1717 Broadway. Nobutaka Ashihara Architect designed the property, which will be more than 752ft (229m) tall. Interstate Hotels and Resorts will manage the hotels, which will open in late 2013.
Sharing a main entrance and arrival lobby on 54th street, the Residence Inn's public spaces will be located on the third floor and the Courtyard by Marriott's on the fourth floor. The Courtyard by Marriott will occupy floors six-32 and the Residence Inn will occupy 36-64. A shared fitness facility will be located on the 34th floor.
Meanwhile, a leased restaurant is planned for the second floor and a lounge and terrace with outdoor seating will offer views overlooking Broadway from the fifth floor. Marriott chief operations officer - eastern region David Marriott said: "We are thrilled that this development is becoming a reality and will feature two of our strongest brands at such a premier location."
