GOCO to develop masterplan for USD350m destination spa resort in Qatar
Details have been revealed for the US$350m (273m euro, £232m) Zalal Wellness Destination Spa - set to open in Qatar in 2016.
The resort will include 70 rooms and 10,000sq m (107,639sq ft) of spa and wellness amenities, 40 private residences and a 125-room family hotel on the 1.5m sq m (16m sq ft) site.
Its target market will include domestic visitors and visitors from regional countries such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.
GOCO Hospitality has been employed to develop the master plan and concept, conduct market research and feasibility studies, develop the brand and concept and deliver design and technical services.
It has also conducted research on Islamic healing traditions across 23 countries to be employed as part of a medical spa wellness programme.
Research covered research matters such as food and nutrition, beauty, massage, aroma, water, movement, purification, balance and energy.
The project has the support of the Qatar Foundation - a non-profit organisation established to develop education, science and community development in the sovereign Arab state.
Additional partners in the project include George Wong Design, Kerry Hill and Msheireb Properties, and Oxford, Stanford and Harvard universities.

A new science museum has opened to the public in Haikou after attracting more than 350,000 visitors during a four-month soft opening period.
Designed by Ma Yansong and his practice MAD Architects, the Hainan Science Museum is located on the edge of Wuyuan River National Wetland Park and has already recorded peak attendance of more than 5,800 visitors in a single day.
