Funding boost for Carnegie upgrade
The redevelopment of Carnegie Leisure Centre in Dunfermline has received a funding boost after sportscotland agreed to contribute £1.1m towards the project.
Fife Council is leading the scheme as part of a £50m investment in local sports facilities, which will also see the redevelopment of the Fife Institute of Physical and Recreation Education in Glenrothes, and a new swimming complex in Kirkcaldy. Designs for the refurbished Carnegie Leisure Centre have now been finalised, and will include new changing and reception areas, a new 90-station gym, two new, purpose-built aerobic studios and an upgrade of the sports hall.
Work will also see an extension of the centre's training pool, the installation of a moveable floor and a new health village. Fife Sports and Leisure Trust manages and operates the facility on behalf of Fife Council. The trust's chief executive, Ed Watson, said: "A contribution of this scale reflects the confidence that sportscotland has in the project, and the long-term sporting legacy it will deliver to the community."
