Bangor plans still 'on track'
Bangor City Football Club (BCFC) has insisted that its proposed move to a new stadium at Nantporth remain on track, as part of plans for a mixed-use scheme on the site of its current Farrar Road ground.
Club chair, Dilwyn Jones, said that there was no reason to suggest that the plans had been shelved, despite delays to the project led by Deiniol Developments, a joint venture between Morbaine and Watkin Jones. Plans for the Farrar Road development, which include a 22,000sq ft (2,044sq m) leisure facility set to house a bowling alley or a cinema, were given conditional approval by Gwynedd Council's Arfon planning committee in August 2008.
Although the scheme has encountered delays, ground works have already got underway at the Nantporth site, and Jones said that recent speculation has been misplaced and has even prevented the club from attracting financial backing. Jones said: "Bangor City's position is that we continue to be in discussions with the developer Deiniol Developments and other parties, and as far as we're concerned, all options are still very much on the table.
"These are working out a timetable for Nantporth, and the possibility of carrying out temporary works at Farrar Road to achieve a Welsh Premier Licence in the short-term. "We also wish to underline ongoing confidence in the Nantporth project by confirming that a planning application for minor amendments to the original scheme has been made this month, the purpose of which is to come in line with the current Welsh Premier Licence.
