400-year-old mineral spring will power Preidlhof’s €2m medicinal bath experience
– Patrizia Bortolin
Destination spa and health resort Preidlhof in Naturno, South Tyrol, will open a new medicinal bathing facility later this month, following a five-year development programme.
Costing €2m (US$2.26m, £1.7m), the new hydrotherapy experience will include an 80sq m indoor pool and a number of private whirlpool baths.
The main pool is a retrofit of an existing swimming pool tank, which has been excavated and rebuilt to accommodate the specialist pipework needed to cope with the water's mineral content.
All will be filled with mineral-rich water sourced from a 400-year-old spring located under Naturno’s Reinhold Messner Castle, 5km from the resort.
The Naturno destination is near the Italian spa town of Merano which is home to a number of public bathing facilities supplied by its famous healing mineral water.
“This project is the result of an independent, combined community initiative led by the local hospitality industry,” explains Patrizia Bortolin, Preidlhof’s spa director, speaking exclusively to CLAD and sister magazine, Spa Business.
Bortolin is busy curating new spa programming incorporating the medicinal baths into Preidlhof’s offering.
Highlights will include private bathing experiences in the whirlpool baths, infused with detox or regenerative bath oil blends, inspired by the traditional Merano bathing ritual.
