Shanghai Edition hotel to open in October
The latest addition to the Edition brand of luxury hotels, a partnership between Marriott International and hotelier-designer Ian Schrager, is scheduled to open in Shanghai next month.
The new resort, built in a space that was erstwhile a part of the Art Deco-style headquarters of the Shanghai Power Company, has 145 guest rooms as well as multiple bars and restaurants, two of which are helmed by Michelin-starred chef, Jason Atherton.
In addition to a nightclub called “Electric Circus”, the Shanghai Edition has amenities for wellness and communal living, including an expansive roof garden, gym, swimming pool, and spa.
Ian Schrager, who first struck a hospitality deal with Marriott in 2007 said: "This is a new kind of hotel in China that the city of Shanghai didn't know it needed."
Previously, Schrager had said that 2018 would be a pivotal year for the boutique brand. The company’s Bodrum Edition, based along Turkey's Mediterranean coast, opened in July, while its Barcelona Edition launched in September. Two other hotels in Los Angeles and New York are scheduled to premiere over the course of the next year.
