MKV Design completes interiors for luxury Tenerife resort

by Luke Cloherty | 16 Aug 2018

A new luxury resort on the Spanish Canary Island of Tenerife boasts nine restaurants and bars and a large spa, as well as 121 junior hotel suites, and one, two and three-bedroom apartments.

The Royal Hideaway Corales is now open, with interiors now completed and designed by MKV Design.

MKV took their architectural and design inspiration from Leonardo Omar, a local architect known for his avant-garde buildings that use lots of white in their palette.

As such, Royal Hideaway Corales sees a series of whites nestled next to terracottas – reflecting the volcanic island outside – and turquoises and blues – mirroring the sea that wraps around Tenerife.

The interior design schemes for the hotel guestrooms particularly draw on the white, geometric building form, which acts as an embodiment of the local white and black coral (as exemplified in the resort’s name ‘Corales’).

A restaurant and bar suite sits on the main pool level that incorporates an Asian dining room (San Ho), a seafood restaurant (Nao Atlantic), and a shared pool bar terrace.

A 1,000sq m (10,764sq ft) spa and wellness centre sits underneath the hotel. Guests descend in front of a wall of timber and stone into this space via an elevator.

Volcanic stone, rich North African timbers and glass pervade throughout the spa, which is flanked by a glazed wall.

Maria Vafiadis, managing director of MKV Design said: “Royal Hideaway Corales is a truly unique project in so many ways, not least in its architecture and scale.

“So our interiors have drawn on the buildings’ architecture to achieve a purist design in the suites and spa, balanced by a diverse range of wining and dining destinations, each with their own aesthetic.”
