New £7.8m swimming pool to open in Montrose this month
A new £7.8m swimming pool is set to launch in Montrose, Scotland this month.
The new 25m, six-lane swimming pool will link to the existing Montrose Sports Centre and will also feature a viewing gallery and a studio pool which incorporates a moving floor to allow variation in pool depth.
The pool will be used both for competitive and community swimming.
The complex was designed by Angus Council architect Dave Smith while Ogilvie Construction was responsible for the construction.
The project had a total cost of £7.8m and came in £2m under the £10m budget allocated.
Councillor Jeanette Gaul, Angus Council spokesperson on leisure said: "I was very impressed by the high quality of workmanship and the excellent range of facilities which will soon be available to residents of Montrose.
"This will be a huge asset to Montrose and I hope that swimmers of all ages and levels of ability will enjoy visiting the pool."
Opened in 1983, Montose Sports Centre offers more than 30 different sporting activities.
Facilities include a six badminton court games hall, three glass backed squash courts, multi-purpose gym and activity rooms along with a nine-hole pitch and putt course.
The new swimming pool will be open to the public on 17 November.
