June relaunch for London's Cafe Royal
London's historic Café Royal will reopen in June as a member of The Set, a newly-unveiled hotel collection established by Alfred and Georgi Akirov, following an extensive renovation.
David Chipperfield Architects and Donald Insall Associates have overseen a comprehensive facelift of the Regent Street property, which has been carried out over the last three years.
Among the new additions to the 159-bedroom hotel is the 800sq m (8,611sq ft) Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Centre day spa, which spans two floors and has its own dedicated entrance from Piccadilly Circus.
A 19m indoor swimming pool will be at the heart of the lower floor of the wellbeing facility, with five treatment rooms also included - three of which will feature whirlpools.
The lower floor will also offer a wet room; private and public hammams; a dry sauna; and a watsu pool. A yoga studio and a gym feature on the upper floor.
Although the Café Royal hotel will open its doors in June, it is anticipated that the Aksaha Holistic Wellbeing Centre will be unveiled in September.
Café Royal is one of two inaugural members of The Set, with the Conservatorium Hotel in Amsterdam, Netherlands, being the second. Hotel Lutetia Paris, France will become the third following its own refurbishment.
A spokesperson said: "The reopening of Café Royal marks the return of a London institution that, throughout its 150-year history, has continually reinvented itself to define the moods, social mores and style of the capital."
