Minister launches Architecture Tours Ireland
Architecture Tours Ireland - a new joint venture between the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI) and the Irish Architecture Foundation (IAF) - has been officially launched.
Jimmy Deenihan, the Irish minister for arts, heritage and the Gaeltacht, has given his support to the scheme, which aims to generate interest in architecture as a cultural form. Architecture Tours Ireland is already working with tourism agency Fáilte Ireland in order to help promote the programme, with the tours covering a range of themes.
The initiative will look at the architectural development of Dublin city centre, with architects who have professional tour guide training to lead the walking tours. Deenihan said: "Contemporary Irish architecture is regarded as equal to the best in Europe. This is borne out with a proven track record in international awards and prizes won by Irish architects recently."
