2012 Aquatics Centre roof structure in place

A 160m (525ft) wave-shaped roof structure has been lowered into place as part of the Zaha Hadid-designed London 2012 Aquatics Centre at the Olympic Park.
The venue, which will act as the gateway to the Olympic Park in Stratford, will boast two 50m swimming pools, a 25m diving pool and a dry diving area for community and elite use after the 2012 Games. Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) chief executive David Higgins said: "The Aquatics Centre is on track for completion in mid-2011 and the sweeping roof that will form the 'Gateway to the Games' is now a fixture in the skyline alongside the Olympic Stadium."
Construction work on the roof's aluminium covering is now due to get underway before the installation of timber cladding starts in early 2010. Work is also already underway on the construction of the bridges that will form the main pedestrian entrance to the Games site from Stratford, which will span the Aquatics Centre and form the roof of the training pool.
