SB Architects bring new life to century-old California winery and visitor experience

Following an extensive renovation, the acclaimed Freemark Abbey winery in California’s Napa Valley has reopened to reveal a total transformation of its century-old stone building, which now houses a high-end restaurant and visitor centre. San Francisco firms SB Architects and BraytonHughes Design Studio led the design of the project, which pays homage to Freemark Abbey’s past while introducing several complementary contemporary features. Four Seasons is planning a new luxury resort in Napa Valley, California, that will include a spa using the natural geothermal waters unique to the Calistoga region. Lutz and Ludescher marry modern and traditional design for family winery

Austrian architects Elmar Ludescher and Philip Lutz have created a modern winery to embody the ‘fine art of wine production in the abstract’. The new winery at the 50-year-old Högl family vineyard in Lower Austria will house some of the winemaking processes and give visitors a space to sample the wines.
