London Museum reveals 2026 opening date for new Smithfield home

The London Museum’s new site will open in Smithfield, East London, on 28 November 2026. The new museum, designed by Asif Khan and Stanton Williams, alongside conservation architects Julian Harrap, will tell the story of London and its history, and will also act as a social space for residents and visitors. The Museum of London has secured £180m (US$224.4m, €208.7m) towards its £250m (US$311.7m, €289.9m) target to finance a move to the iconic Smithfield Market. Museum of London announces architecture competition

The Museum of London has officially started its search for an architect to design its proposed new home inside a vacant Victorian market. Design competition organiser Malcolm Reading Consultants has been appointed to lead the search. A two-stage contest will begin in February 2016.
