AS+GG nab contract to design athletics-inspired tower in Hong Kong

Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (AS+GG) have won a competition to create a new "sculptural icon" in Shenzhen, Hong Kong. Described by the architects as an "anthropomorphic" structure, the Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Centre (SHKIC) is designed to symbolise the agon or competitive struggle endured by high-performance athletes. Chicago architects Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture have won the International Design Competition for Expo 2017 in Kazakhstan’s capital. AS+GG beat off competition from more than 100 companies around the world, including Zaha Hadid Architets and GMP International.
