Work starts on Shay stand project
Work has started on a £4.5m project to complete the east stand at The Shay stadium in Halifax, West Yorkshire.
Hall Construction Services has been appointed by Calderdale Council to carry out the design and build contract on the stand at the home of FC Halifax Town, which has remained partially built for a number of seasons. The project will see the installation of 3,500 seats, a banqueting suite for 280 people, bars for supporters, and changing facilities for players and match officials, as well as classrooms which could be used by both Leeds Metropolitan University and Calderdale College.
Leader of Calderdale Council, Stephen Baines, said: "The council is investing £4.5m into the redevelopment of the stand, because we are committed to supporting professional sport within the district and creating healthier communities. "The development will also improve the quality of our environment and should help to bring about economic prosperity for the district."
