An appeal has been launched by the Nant Gwrtheyrn Trust (NGT) to raise a further £200,000 in order to complete a six-phase restoration scheme at the former quarrying village in Gwynedd, North Wales.

The village, which is located on the northern coast of the Llŷn Peninsula, near Pwllheli, is home to a Welsh language and heritage centre, and includes an education centre, accommodation and conference facilities. Funding worth £3.5m has already been contributed by the European Union and the Welsh Assembly Government, although the additional £200,000 will enable the almost all of the first four phases to be completed.

Jeff Williams-Jones, NGT chair, said: "It's good to be able to launch an appeal, which is an attempt not to salvage something, but rather to take full advantage of success and of support which has already been secured. "The Nant, in its new form, after the work has been completed, will provide work for 32 local people within one of the most Welsh-speaking areas of Wales – but an area where job opportunities are scarce."
