New York's landmark Renwick Hotel re-designed to celebrate the 'Roaring Twenties'

Hotel giant Hilton has acquired New York’s historic Renwick Hotel and opened it as part of its Curio Collection.

The property is a literary landmark once frequented by the likes of John Steinbeck, Thomas Mann and other American writers and intellectuals.

The renovation and re-design by architecture and interior design firm Stonehill & Taylor evokes this cultural heritage and references the design flourishes of Manhattan in the 1920s, when the hotel was first opened.

Each of the hotel's gallery rooms and residential-style suites is fashioned as an enclave to inspire style and creativity, with easels and paint, writing paper and ink, and artwork and literature included alongside modern amenities. Every room features hand painted New York City skyline drapes, artist stools and ceramic pen cups that feature pages from F. Scott Fitzgerald's famous novel, The Great Gatsby. Meanwhile, public areas in the hotel contain murals paying tribute to the building's former tenants.

"As one of the world's most vibrant and dynamic cities, New York affords travellers singular moments unlike any other cultural destination in the world," said Mark Nogal, global head of the Curio brand. "Thus, The Renwick is an ideal hotel for Curio's first foray into Manhattan. Its artful, luxurious design epitomises our commitment to offering distinctive hand-picked properties, each with its own character and story to tell."
