A historic art deco cinema in Evesham, Worcestershire, is set to reopen next year following the completion of a five-year scheme to restore the Grade II-listed property.

In January, Wychavon District Council (WDC) contributed a loan of £150,000 towards the restoration of the Regal Cinema, which will provide the town with a new 300-seat single-screen facility featuring enhancements to original 1930s features. The ground level of the venue will boast a bar area incorporating 100 seats arranged around candle-lit tables, function rooms, a coffee shop and a rooftop restaurant, and it is expected that the cinema will screen a wide range of films, as well as live sports feeds, live music and fashion shows.

Designs for the new-look Regal Cinema were drawn up by Worcester-based Zebra Architects, while engineering firm Latter Ramsay Consultants and interior designers Cocoa and Lace have also been involved with the scheme. WDC approved full planning and listed building consent in July. The Regal Cinema's Ian Wiper said: "We're hoping the building can be finished next summer, but we'll continue to provide regular updates on progress."
