Refurbishment of Bradford Uni’s sports centre begins
Work has begun on the £5m redevelopment of the University of Bradford Leisure Centre.
The university is working with Cambridge-based architects Saunders Boston and Lotus Construction to revamp the sports and recreation facilities on its city centre campus.
Chris Spargo, head of commercial services for the university, said: “This significant investment into new and redeveloped sports facilities not only provides a fantastic opportunity for the current and future student community, but also for us to engage further with the local community in terms of improved access participation and health improvement.”
Work on the site will include a glass entrance atrium, called ‘the cone’, which will provide a new public face for the centre as well as enclose a climbing wall.
The centre will also feature a new fitness suite and exercise studio, a four-badminton court sports hall, and a 25m, five-lane swimming pool.
The work is expected to be completed in summer 2009.
