Four Seasons Silicon Valley brings wellness refresh to guest rooms with Tonal wellbeing upgrade

These additions to the guest experience promote holistic wellbeing and productivity
– Florian Riedel

Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley, US, is the world’s first hotel to feature Tonal, an intelligent in-room gym and personal trainer, for guests to use at their convenience.

Four Seasons implemented the new system into select rooms before the global pandemic as part of a hotel-wide refresh on wellness, where guests were offered a Fitness Center redesigned in consultation with fitness expert and Four Seasons Global Fitness Advisor, Harley Pasternak; and offered mindful tips and heart-healthy menu items by wellness consultant and author Yvonne Tally.

“These additions to the guest experience promote holistic well-being and productivity,” says Florian Riedel, GM of the downtown Palo Alto hotel.

“For those who want to maintain their personal wellness while travelling can do so through these multi-layered offerings, giving guests opportunities to be more balanced and focused as they go about their trip.”

Selected guest rooms feature Silicon Valley-based Tonal, an all-in-one fitness system and personal trainer which combines innovative technology, virtual coaching and minimal equipment for on-demand, strength training, yoga, cardio classes, and hundreds of guided workouts from the comfort of the guest room.

Guests can also request a Peloton bike, Streamline treadmill, stretch ball, yoga mat and more to be placed in their room upon demand.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley, which shares our goal of offering a convenient, holistic fitness solution to their guests,” says Chris Stadler, CMO of Tonal.

“We know many of our own members travel often, and we want to provide intelligent strength training when they are on the road. This is an exciting early milestone for Tonal in our efforts to provide more exposure for the brand in the luxury hospitality sector.”

Tonal delivers its services via a wall-displayed screen with resistance weights which facilitate a full-body workout - with hundreds of moves and 200 pounds (90 kilograms) of resistance - without leaving one's room.

Tonal’s Coach AI technology monitors the quality of every rep and adjusts resistance for each exercise in real-time based on the individual body - to ensure users never lift weights that are too heavy or too light.

Guests can set a goal, select a workout, and follow along as Tonal’s expert coaches guide them through on-screen instruction.

Furthering a dedication to offering holistic experiences and simple ways to “Take Your Time,” the Hotel partnered with Yvonne Tally to curate a small book of her most useful tips for a mindfully empowered day.

Tally is the author of Breaking Up with Busy: Real Life Solutions for Overscheduled Women and co-founder of the Silicon Valley fitness and lifestyle company Poised.

The mindfulness book is featured in all rooms, and guests can continue with these practical strategies at home for further well-being.
