Mozzino's design for Europe's first UFC Gym encourages involvement
Design consultants Mozzino have created the first UFC Gym in Europe, with an open-plan layout aimed at fostering approachability and empowering gym users.
Central to the 18,000sq ft (1,670sq m) studio is the UFC octagon-shaped ring for training work.
The facility also features a bag area with 30 punch bags, soft turf and matted training areas, free weights and cardio sections, strength and conditioning equipment and a cryotherapy unit.
A recovery area will provide pre- and post-workout treatments and a café, while locker rooms will include changing areas, a family changing area and saunas.
The gym has an open-plan design to minimise barriers for individuals when looking at or wanting to try out different areas.
Mozzino owner Tobie Anderson explained: "If I’m hiding everything away, I’m giving another barrier to the idea that I can do this myself, I’m creating another line to cross.
"Whereas by having everything open and flowing throughout the space, I can see that 'okay, that guy can do it, that girl can do it, so I can do it, maybe my kids can do it, their child’s doing it, what about mine, why shouldn’t I have a go?’"
The club in Nottingham, UK, is the first of 105 clubs planned for the UK and Ireland over the next 10 years.
