Emerald Collection opens first resort in the Maldives and reveals two more developments for Zanzibar

by Megan Whitby | 16 Sep 2019
We want to stimulate the creation of long lasting memories for all our guests by meeting and exceeding their expectations at all times
– Simone Scarapicchia, director of Sales & Marketing for Emerald Maldives Resort

The Emerald Collection is expanding its portfolio with the development of three new resorts – the newly-opened five-star Emerald Maldives Resort and Spa and two further properties in Zanzibar.

The company, which is based in Italy and owned by the Scarapicchia Group, designs, develops and operates its own resorts.

The 20-hectare, 120-villa Emerald Maldives Resort was designed by Edward David Poole, an American architect currently living in Singapore, using natural materials, such as bamboo and stone.

The US$200m property is located in the Northern Maldives archipelago in the Raa Atoll. It has a 120-hectare lagoon with 1.7km of coral reef, as well as a private marina which can be accessed by seaplane.

“We wanted to create a real sanctuary from the external chaotic modern life, able to accommodate both couples and families,” says Simone Scarapicchia, partner and director for sales and marketing.

The resort's Emerald Spa has 10 air-conditioned bungalows and offers Thai and Balinese treatments. Guests can also enjoy a wide range of leisure opportunities, including watersports, tennis, diving and a gym, equipped by Technogym.

The resort has four concept restaurants – the Aqua Restaurant, the Beach Club Grill, Le Asiatique and the Amazonico Restaurant. The property is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World marketing consortium.

“We want to stimulate the creation of long-lasting memories for all our guests by meeting and exceeding their expectations at all times and by surprising them with what we call the natural elegance of the Maldives," says Scarapicchia.

The two new resorts in Zanzibar are currently on-site, with openings expected within the next 12-18 months.

The Emerald Collection is a family business which develops, owns and manages luxury resorts in East Africa, the Maldives and the Caribbean.
