Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi gets July launch date
The largest theme park development coming to the Middle East this year has been set its opening date, with developer Miral confirming the launch of Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi on 25 July.
To feature six immersive lands, the 1.65 million sq ft (153,000sq m), US$1bn (€808m, £703m) indoor attraction is the latest addition to the emirate's Yas Island.
The DC universe will make up two of the six worlds, with Metropolis and Gotham City – the homes of Superman and Batman respectively – designed to draw fans of the comic book franchises to the attraction.
The next world, Cartoon Junction, will bring together popular Warner Bros characters such as Bugs Bunny and Scooby-Doo and place them in a stylised cartoon world immersing guests in animation.
For fans of Hannah-Barbera’s The Flintstones, a recreation of Bedrock will make up the fourth world, while Dynamite Gulch with feature both Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera characters.
The final part of the park will be Warner Bros Plaza – an area celebrating Hollywood and telling the rich history of the Warner Bros brand.
“The launch of Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi is yet another milestone in the Emirate’s journey to further enrich its tourism offering, and help establish it as one of the world’s leading tourist destinations," said Miral chair Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak. “As part of our fulfilment to Abu Dhabi’s ambition to drive increased visitors and enhance the UAE’s appeal as an international destination, we are thrilled that fans will be able to enjoy the outcome of this partnership and the massive, fun and engaging park offerings in a few months,” he continued.
The Miral owned and operated Yas Island is one of the Middle East’s major leisure and entertainment destinations, boasting Yas Waterworld, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, a concert hall, golf course and variety of hotels, restaurants and retail offers. Yas Island attracts 25 million visitors a year, with Miral predicting an increase to 30 million with the opening of Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi.
