England’s Gisborough Hall plans woodland spa

– Nick Holmes
Gisborough Hall has revealed plans for a new multi-million-pound woodland spa, due to open at the end of 2018.
Designed by Peterborough-based Harris McCormack Architects, the standalone spa will include nine treatment rooms, an 18m indoor swimming pool, an outdoor hydro-pool, a variety of heat experiences with relaxation spaces, a gym and a fitness studio.
The spa will overlook the Cleveland Hills in a secluded part of North Yorkshire, and will provide a full range of spa days and membership packages, with facilities accessible to hotel guests.
“Our Revival Zone Spa at Gisborough Hall has always been popular, but it’s just not big enough for the demand we have,” said Kim Yardley, general manager of Gisborough Hall.
“We’re now in a position to build on our current offer and make both Gisborough Hall and the surrounding area an international destination for business and leisure.”
Nick Holmes, a non-executive director at Gisborough, added: “The spa industry is growing rapidly throughout the UK, but particularly in the North of England, which already boasts some of the finest, award-winning spas.
"The hotel has a superb location and the addition of an outstanding spa facility can only enhance its reputation both regionally and nationally. We also want to put Gisborough as a town on the map as a go-to destination, which, in turn, brings people to the region and helps to boost the local economy.”
Gisborough Hall is celebrating its 15th anniversary as a hotel, and Holmes said that makes it the perfect time to add the spa.
The 71-bedroom country house dates back to 1857 and was fully restored in 2002 following investment by the Gisborough family, which owns the hotel.
