Shangri-la builds luxury lifestyle development in Manila with 250m tower and 10,000sq m club

by Jane Kitchen | 25 Jun 2015

Investor, developer and operator, Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, is on site with Shangri-la at the Fort, a mixed-use development in Manila, the Philippines which will open in Q4 this year. The building will be one of the tallest in the country at 250m (820ft) and one of the first luxury lifestyle developments in the Philippines.

Shangri-la at the Fort will include a Shangri-La hotel and residences, as well as Horizon Homes, a collection of customised homes on the highest floors which will be managed by Shangri-la. Other elements will include Kerry Sports Manila, a vast two-storey, 10,000m sq (107,639sq ft) lifestyle and leisure club that will include a spa and extensive retailing.

Handel Architects are leading the project, with Hirsch Bedner & Associates designing the hotel’s public areas, guestrooms and residences.

Sydney-based Stack Studio is doing the Kerry Sports Manila facility and Raging Bull Burgers restaurant.

Other firms involved include masterplanners AECOM, who are working on the landscaping, Rockwell Group who are creating the High Street Café and Limitless restaurant and Steve Leung Designers who are working on the Canton Road restaurant and Avroko East for Raging Bull Chophouse & Bar.

Manny Samson & Associates have created the interiors for Horizon Homes, as well as the Samba Poolside restaurant and bar.

While details of the spa are yet to be finalised, it will feature nine treatment rooms and be located on levels 5 and 6, of Kerry Sports Manila. This lifestyle club will also include an NBA-grade indoor basketball court, two tennis courts, two squash courts, an outdoor lap pool, gym facilities, exercise studios, and Adventure Zone – a multi-level indoor playground for children, that includes party rooms.

Located in the heart of Bonifacio Global City, an emerging contemporary lifestyle district in the centre of Manila, Shangri-La at the Fort is expected to attain LEED gold-certified status. The property will include 576 bedrooms, as well as 97 one-, two- or three-bedroom residences, two ballrooms, 19 multi-function rooms and seven dining options.
