Bass Museum of Art to undergo expansion
The Bass Museum of Art, US is to undergo an expansion with the addition of a new wing dedicated to educational facilities and exhibition space, following a $7.5m (£4.6m, €5.4m) grant from the City of Miami Beach.
The expansion is to coincide with the museum’s 50th anniversary next year, with the City providing funding as recognition of the centre’s contribution to the area’s cultural output.
The expansion would see the addition of two classrooms to be built adjacent to the museum’s Lindemann Family Creativity Centre. These facilities will be accessible through a separate entrance, which will allow them to be accessed after museum hours and in the evenings to help provide further educational access and support. The new expansion will also mean that the museum can simultaneously schedule both classes and events for visitors and students.
It is thought the new spaces will be able to cater for a minimum 25 of students, while there will also be a larger space that can accommodate 40 art students, or 75 people sitting in rows to watch the museum’s lectures, film screenings and performances.
The Bass is known for its educational contribution, with the museum providing programmes and scholarship for students, while it also houses an impressive collection of antiquities and renaissance and baroque art exhibitions.
