Willmott Dixon preferred contractors for £11m South Tyneside leisure centre
Construction firm Willmott Dixon are working with South Tyneside Council in the early development stages of a new £11m leisure centre in Hebburn.
The new centre is being developed by the council and forms part of a masterplan to regenerate the town centre.
The leisure hub will comprise a 25m, six-lane swimming pool as well as a learner pool, sports hall, dance studio, library and customer service facilities.
Construction on site is due to begin late summer 2013, with completion due 18 months later.
Willmott Dixon and South Tyneside Council are also working with civil and structural design engineers Mott MacDonald for the project.
Gerry Gray, Mott MacDonald's project director, said: "Our appointment on this project continues a strong relationship between Mott MacDonald and Willmott Dixon in the north east.
"Previous projects include the award-winning Houghton-le-Spring Primary Care Centre in Sunderland and the new police headquarters in Newcastle city centre."
