Mandarin Oriental opens first retreat in Greece and announces upcoming Sardinian property and spa
Luxury hotel operator Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group (MOHG) has announced the opening of its first Greek property and spa, Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino.
Described as a sustainably-driven destination, the new beachfront resort in Messenia has been developed in collaboration with Temes – the property owner and a developer known for its commitment to sustainability.
The design team behind the 99-key resort was Tombazis & Associates Architects and K-Studio. Their brief was to ensure every aspect of the resort maximises its extraordinary views.
Its bioclimatic design utilises locally sourced materials and embraces green living concepts, drawing inspiration from local agricultural traditions and the region's rich cultural heritage.
In keeping with MOHG’s focus on wellness, the destination is home to a 1,500sq m signature spa inspired by the group’s oriental traditions and the lush Greek flora that surrounds it.
Designed as a tranquil sanctuary, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino, was conceived to offer a genuine escape.
The facility’s hydrothermal offering consists of a herbal flower steamroom, an olive view sauna, experience showers, a mineral steamroom, a cold plunge, foot baths and a swimming pool, which traverses from indoor to outdoor and gazes across the bay.
Guests can also access a fitness centre, a team of fitness trainers and four signature golf courses designed by Bernhard Langer, Robert Trent Jones II and José María Olazábal.
Additional leisure opportunities at Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino, include five distinct restaurant and bar concepts, a varied activity schedule of water sports, biking, rock-climbing and more, as well as a selection of cultural excursions ranging from olive oil tastings to traditional cooking classes and visits to local historical sites.
Expanding in Italy
MOHG now operates 36 hotels and nine residences in 24 countries and territories, with each property reflecting the group’s oriental heritage, local culture and unique design.
This week, MOHG has also announced plans to open a luxury 83-key resort in Sardinia, located in the northeast of the island in Costa Smeralda.
Set to open its doors in mid-2026, Mandarin Oriental, Porto Cervo will mark MOHG's fourth venture in Italy. It’s being developed in partnership with Gruppo Statuto – an Italian real estate group that previously partnered with MOHG to realise Mandarin Oriental, Milan.
Perched on a forest-covered hillside overlooking the Gulf of Pevero, Mandarin Oriental, Porto Cervo will be crowned with a signature Spa at Mandarin Oriental.
Additional facilities will include a fitness centre, large indoor and outdoor pools nestled amidst lush gardens, a beach club and five restaurants and bars.
Francesco Cefalú, chief development officer MOHG, commented on the new property: "We’re excited to introduce Mandarin Oriental, Porto Cervo to our guests and to expand our portfolio of leisure destinations in this region.
“Costa Smeralda’s unique allure, combined with the expertise of Gruppo Statuto, promises to create an extraordinary retreat. We look forward to delivering Mandarin Oriental's legendary service and refined luxury to this captivating corner of Italy."
