Native Places opens vast lifestyle aparthotel by Archer Humphryes Architects

Native has opened a vast aparthotel, designed by Archer Humphryes Architects, in the Ducie Street railway goods warehouse in Manchester UK.

On the ground floor is an all-day lounge, a mini-cinema, a coffee shop and restaurant. Private meeting and dining rooms, outdoor terraces and three fitness studios complete the mix.

Covering 20,000sq ft (1,900sq m), the aparthotel houses 158 luxury studios. All are furnished by Conran Contracts and have sitting rooms, dining areas and fully fitted kitchens.

The scale of the building is best conveyed by the huge atrium around which the suites are located. Dominated by the warehouse's original, powder-blue, wrought iron girders the atrium stretches six storeys to a central glass roof.

The iron girders of the Grade II listed building – which was constructed in 1867 – have been left exposed throughout and can be seen in the bedrooms, living rooms and bathrooms of the apartments. Similarly, much of the red brickwork of the warehouse's walls and ceilings remains exposed.

Native shares the building with the Love is Enough-designed Cultureplex social and cultural venue.

Work on Native Manchester began in early 2016 and was completed last month. The aparthotel is the largest in the UK.
