Graham Baba Architects create Jules Verne-inspired bar in Seattle
American design firm Graham Baba Architects (GBA) have created Deep Dive, a speakeasy-style bar that's loosely inspired by the scientific romance novels of Jules Verne.
Located at The Amazon Spheres in Seattle, Washington, the drinking spot – like a Victorian cabinet of curiosities – is furnished with ornate display cases and various assortments of flowers, dioramas, and objets d'art.
The 1,677 sq ft (155.7 sq m) space, which unfolds like a kind of theatre, is panelled in dark wood to further accentuate its atmosphere of mystique.
"It's a dark, relic-like space that's tinged with a sense of Victorian magic and mysticism," said Jim Graham, lead architect at GBA.
Other elements of the decor, which was conceived by interior design practice Charlie Hellstern and curated by Curtis Steiner, include an eclectic mix of banquettes, custom-made lighting fixtures, and vintage carpets.
Deep Dive, one of several new venues to open at The Spheres, is helmed by James Beard Award-winning chef Renee Erickson.
