New civic space set for Dublin

Designs put forward by LiD Architecture have been selected as the winning concept for a new public civil space, which will be built as part of a mixed-use redevelopment of Dublin's docklands in Ireland.
Dublin City Council (DCC) and Point Village Limited announced that the Belfast-based firm had been chosen following the conclusion of a design competition administered by the Royal Institute of Architects in Ireland (RIAI). Plans for The Parlour, which has been designed to incorporate a strong cultural, social and environmental character, have been based around the concept of using shipping containers as building blocks to offer flexibility and sustainability.
Situated adjacent to Dublin's 14,000-seat O2 arena, the new civic space will be used to stage a range of outdoor music events, markets and monster céilís - traditional Gaelic social dance events. All events held at The Parlour will be free. Image: LiD Architecture
