Mid-century desert art scene inspires Arizona resort
Hotel giant Hyatt is launching the Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Spa, a 201-bedroom property in Arizona, US, with mid-century, desert-inspired interiors.
With stunning views of Camelback Mountain, the complex features interiors conceived by San Francisco-based EDG Interior Architecture + Design. Guestrooms and suites will be configured in bungalow-style clusters of six units, designed to provide guests an authentic and intimate desert resort experience.
The design draws its inspiration from the innovative 1950s desert art scene, influenced by architects, artists and graphic designers such as Alexander Girard, Frank Lloyd Wright and Paolo Solari. The desert will serve as a creative landscape to weave an eclectic mix of folk art, cultural patterns and bright colours into the architecture and design of the hotel.
Hyatt will also collaborate with local artists, musicians and designers to create events and programmes for guests based upon themes unique to the Sonoran desert. The Andaz Salon, the brand’s signature cultural programme, will feature interactive events designed to support and nurture the nearby community of emerging artistic talent, including talks, lectures, exhibitions and performances.
Scheduled to open in mid-2016, the Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Spa will include a 12,000sq ft (1,115sq m) full-service spa and salon, as well as a fitness centre, large pool and sundeck, plus 20,000sq ft (1,858sq m) of meeting and event space.
“Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Spa will continue to carry the tradition of what the brand is all about – bringing the very best of the local culture to life through inspiring experiences for guests,” said David Tarr, senior vice president of development for Hyatt.
Hyatt is working in partnership with PV Scottsdale Hotel Owner SPE LLC – which is a joint venture between affiliates of Chelsea Hospitality Partners and Lubert Adler Real Estate Fund VII – on the project.
The Andaz Scottsdale will join Andaz hotels in resort destinations such as Hawaii and Costa Rica, as well as urban locations, including London, New York, Napa, Los Angeles, Savannah, Shanghai, Amsterdam and Tokyo. Hyatt also has plans to bring the Andaz brand to Ottawa and Palm Springs.
