Merlin builds on Lego's popularity in Japan with announcement of Osaka Discovery Centre
Merlin Entertainments and Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan in Japan have announced plans today (23 July) to open a new Legoland Discovery Centre in Tempozan Market Place Mall, Osaka.
Legoland Discovery Centre Osaka will be the third Lego attraction to come to Japan after the planned Legoland theme park resort in Nagoya and the existing Legoland Discovery Centre in Tokyo.
The indoor attraction – to sit opposite Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan – will offer an interactive and educational experience specifically designed for families with children between the ages of 3-10 years old. The centre will consist of a range of Lego play areas including a brick pool, master classes from a “Master Builder,” a lego ride, special party rooms for birthdays and other celebrations, a 4D cinema, and the Miniland exhibit found in every Legoland attraction, including buildings from the Osaka skyline and surrounding area, all nominated by the local community.
Plans and designs are already in place for the 3,000sq m (32,000sq ft) development and construction is underway for a Q1/Q2 opening in 2015.
