New renderings reveal Jean Nouvel's plant-covered São Paulo hotel tower
The architecture practice of Jean Nouvel have revealed new renderings of the plant-covered hotel they have designed for Rosewood in São Paulo.
Developer Allard Group is transforming a complex of early 20th century landmark buildings in the Brazilian city into a development featuring a hotel and spa, private residences, art galleries, high-end retail and entertainment venues.
Nouvel has been commissioned to create the centrepiece hotel, located in and around the former Cidade Matarazzo maternity hospital. A new 90m tower with a latticed steel facade will rise next to the historic building, and will be covered with landscaped terraces that act as an extension of an adjacent park.
Nouvel has previously said: “Like a tree, a tower should have roots. It’s part of a geography, a terrain, a topography, the soil, a specific geology. As an expression of the built environment, it’s the easiest to read at a distance.
“This tower will show how medium- to high-rise apartment buildings can be instrumental in recapturing an art of living that’s capable of progressively defining Sao Paulo.”
His latest thoughts on the project and his design can be heard in the video below:
French designer Philippe Starck is designing the hotel’s interiors and local architecture studio Triptyque and renowned Brazilian artists Beatriz Milhazes and Saint-Clare Cemin have also collaborated on the project.
The hotel will have 151 guestrooms and 114 residential suites. There will also be two restaurants, a landscaped garden, a large ballroom, a wedding chapel and a spa with six treatment rooms, a fitness area and two swimming pools.
Rosewood São Paulo will be the first Rosewood to open in South America. It is scheduled to launch in 2019.
