Grantley Hall hotel and wellness retreat wants to become one of Europe's top gym, spa, and wellness properties
– Duncan Roy, direct of Elite
The Grade II listed, 17th century Grantley Hall hotel and wellness retreat will reopen today (6 July) near Ripon, UK.
The property has undergone extensive renovation work over a three-and-a-half year period, with design by owner Valeria Sykes and now has a high-end gym, spa and a range of restaurants.
The overarching vision is for the hotel to become one of Europe's top gym, spa, and wellness facilities. The property has signed with Relais et Chateaux.
The hotel's Elite executive gym and wellness centre has three fitness spaces – a fully-equipped gym, a strength and conditioning gym and a health and performance area which includes the Randox Health Lab.
This offers high-level testing and analysis, biometric machines, a cryotherapy chamber and three altitude-enabled compact training rooms, including one with an H20 underwater treadmill.
There's also a multi-discipline studio and spin room that enables classes to be delivered at altitude.
Two bedrooms are available that can be altitude-controlled for visiting athletes.
Bespoke personal training programmes will be offered, based on individual performance analysis, as well as supporting bio-marker and biometric testing, gait and postural assessment, using body shape scanning via a Styku 3D Body Scanner, as well as composition and health metrics to create individualised plans.
Group sessions will include spinning, yoga, Pilates, meditation and mindfulness, as well as the opportunity to enjoy hiking, cycling, running and outdoor training in the Yorkshire countryside.
The gym will be managed by competitive athlete and former Royal Engineer, Duncan Roy, who recently competed in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic rowing race, he said: "To achieve our aim of turning Grantley Hall into a truly outstanding health and wellness retreat, we did an in-depth search for the best equipment on the market that could make a real difference to our service and set us apart from other hotels, not only in the UK, but from further afield."
The Three Graces Spa will offer a range of treatments from Ila and Natural Bissé in five dedicated treatment rooms. There will also be a healthy snack bar and English Heritage-listed Japanese garden.
In addition, the hotel has an 18m pool, hydrotherapy pool, steamroom and sauna, as well as a snow room.
Grantley Hall has hired acclaimed British chef, Shaun Rankin to preside over its fine dining restaurant, Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall.
The restaurant will showcase Rankin's local produce cooked in-season with his signature twist. To support his vision for locally sourced sustainable produce, the hotel has installed its own kitchen garden complete with bee hives and fruit trees.
Other gastronomic options include a Pan-Asian experience, bar and restaurant EightyEight, The Drawing Room for quintessential British afternoon tea and a late night Champagne and cocktail bar called Valeria’s.
