New Maldives resort villas will feature underwater bedrooms

by Megan Whitby | 07 Oct 2019
Pullman Maldives Maamutaa Resort is a stunning addition to the premium segment and we look forward to welcoming global nomads to explore the spectacular Gaafu Alifu Atoll.
– Patrick Basset

Pullman’s Maldives Maamutaa Resort will open two villas with underwater bedrooms this November, allowing guests to see the island’s vibrant marine life up close during their stay.

The resort, designed by Blink Design Group with interiors by Miaja Design Group, opened at the end of September and is spread across 18 hectares of landscaped garden in the Gaafu Alifu Atoll. It has 122 villas that are either beachside or overwater and also offers an exclusive private villa, the Royal Suite, that is described as a "resort within a resort" with complete privacy and personalised services.

Among the resort's wellbeing offerings are an overwater spa with eight treatment rooms, a jogging track with fitness stations and a bootcamp experience. There are also restaurants for tapas, Middle Eastern and healthy eating cuisine and a sunken pool bar, as well as a café offering healthy treats and one of the region’s first organic, vegetarian and vegan restaurants.

The Maldives is no stranger to underwater structures. The Hurawalhi Island Resort & Spa has what was at one time claimed to be the world's largest underwater restaurant, while an underwater hotel room was opened last year at Hilton Hotels' Conrad Rangali.

The Maamutaa Resort opened on September 25th. The underwater villas are expected to launch in mid-November.
