Gensler and Concrete collaborate on citizenM hotel in Seattle arts district

– Ernest Lee
citizenM is set to break ground on a second hotel in Seattle, which is due to open in April with Gensler and Concrete design inspired by the context of the historic Pioneer Square location in which it will be situated.
citizenM has three of its "community-minded, tech-forward" hotels open in the US already and is working on locations in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Miami and Washington, D.C.
The Pioneer Square destination will be located on the site of Seattle's first saw mill in what is now "one of the one of the country’s premier cultural and art districts."
Covering 66,918sq ft (6,200sq m), it will house 216 guest rooms spread across 10 floors and will be wrapped in a brick and glass façade that references the area's history.
As with citizenM's other destinations it will be filled with feature contemporary art and "iconic furniture brands", making it at home in the district.
Rooms will feature king-size, wall-to-wall beds, TVs with an on-demand entertainment library and iPad-controllable smart tech like blinds and lights.
A retail space will sell an "unconventional assortment of travel essentials", an open-plan dining area will offer 24/7 grab-and-go food and drinks and a lounge space will provide a space to relax and work.
"We're thrilled to call Pioneer Square one of our new homes and excited to start work," said Ernest Lee, head of development and investments for citizenM North America. "This will be our second property in Seattle, coming off the heels of the opening in South Lake Union, and we will now be able to provide guests options at both ends of the city. In addition, we're looking forward to having a front-row seat at the Seattle waterfront redevelopment, one of the country's most exciting public projects."
