FaulknerBrowns' £42m waterpark and aquatic centre will have Wowball and Waverider

Enhanced designs have been submitted for a £42m waterpark and aquatic complex in Derby, UK.

Original plans for the Moorways complex – designed by architects FaulknerBrowns – were approved in early 2018, but the current administration which took control of Derby City Council (DCC) in May 2018 ordered a review of the project.

The original plans have now been extended to include more waterleisure space, including a waterpark featuring two four-storey flumes and the UK's first wave-generating "Wowball" and Waverider slide.

There will also be an indoor water playground and beach area for younger visitors.

The swimming area will house an Olympic-size 25m x 50m pool with the flexibility to be divided into three separate 25m pools across the width.

In addition, there will also be a learner pool that can be used for lessons and activities.

Other facilities include a large health club with a gym floor, group exercise studios and wet areas; a café with soft play; and multi-use spaces and areas for community use.

The complex is set to open in 2021.
