Delos forms alliance with engineers Glumac to boost integration of wellness and design
– Nicole Isle, Glumac Chief Sustainability Strategist
Wellness real estate and technology firm Delos has announced the latest in a long line of strategic alliances as it continues its bid to expand the global reach of the WELL Building Standard in the architecture and design sector.
The latest partnership is with full-service consulting and engineering firm Glumac. The deal will leverage the latter’s extensive network of sustainably-minded clients, encouraging them to pursue the healthy building standard for their developments.
Glumac has already positioned itself as a leader in the healthy building movement, with nine of its projects registered to pursue WELL Certification.
Now it will become a member of the Well Living Lab – a collaboration between Delos and Mayo Clinic and the world’s first human-centred research lab dedicated to understanding the relationship between the built environment and human health and wellness.
The company will also ensure its own offices meet WELL standards; advise on how to roll out the WELL Building Standard efficiently; and train 20 of its employees through the WELL Accredited Professional programme, which signifies an “advanced knowledge in human health and wellness in the built environment.”
“Glumac looks forward to collaborating with Delos to provide the healthiest indoor environments possible,” said Steve Straus, CEO and president of Glumac. “Our work in MEP engineering, energy modelling, and building commissioning has a direct effect on the health, well-being, and productivity of the people who live and work in the projects we design. Setting an international standard will allow our clients to know they have best in class spaces.”
The company’s chief sustainability strategist, Nicole Isle, added: “It’s critical that clean air, water, abundant natural daylight and connections with the outdoor world are integrated into indoor spaces, given the impact on our general health and productivity. Evidence emerging from this partnership will help the industry understand that when designed well, the benefits of green building technologies to human health and return on investment go hand in hand.”
A number of leisure projects have been delivered by Glumac in the US, including Bonita Unified School District Center for the Performing Arts in San Dimas, Allison Inn & Spa in Newberg, the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, and Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
