Anotherform and Fluxprojects create immersive fitness concept for Blok in London
Boutique fitness operator, Blok, has launched a new studio concept which mixes curated fitness classes with the opportunity to explore the world of art and design.
Blokspace, located in Leyton, London, UK, has been designed to bring together resident artists, spatial design and Blok's signature classes to create an "immersive and transformative experience".
The studio's design has been developed in collaboration with design studio, Anotherform and is based on providing a minimalist landscape that "stimulates both physical and mental wellbeing".
Blokspace will offer a selection of classes across strength, cardio, flexibility, barre, yoga and pilates, as part of a strategy to provide a diverse range of training options to suit all individual preferences and goals.
In addition to the classes and interior design, Blokspace will host a rotating art exhibition by Fluxprojects populating the space with art inspired by choreography.
One of the key features of Blokspace is a purpose-built structure within the space, strategically positioned at an angle to create a sense of disconnection from the existing architecture.
The design element has been created as part of efforts to enable customers to fully engage with their surroundings and classes.
According to Ed Stanbury, CEO and founder of Blok, customers will have the opportunity to "appreciate and be inspired" by an ever-changing collection of art, "further enriching their experience within the space".
Blokspace is Blok's fourth studio in the UK and its third site in London. It operates a single site in Manchester, in addition to locations in Shoreditch and Clapton in the capital.
"Expanding into Leyton was an obvious choice for us, given the massive success of our Clapton studio and the clear demand we've witnessed within the community," Standbury said.
"As a true creative hub, Leyton, and the building itself, were the ideal location to launch our Blokspace concept, which takes us back to our roots, bringing art and experience to the fore, delivering incredible classes in a truly unique environment.”
Max Oppenheim, founder and creative director of Blok, added: “Our aim with the new location is to create a space where the mind and the body can be challenged and stimulated.
"We hope that this will be the first of a series of spaces that are more fluid and creative – and allow new communities to access our brand.”
Blok launched a successful crowd fund on Crowdcube towards the end of last year, beating its £500k target with a final total of £544,242.73 raised from 255 investors.
