India's largest design showcase kicks off today
Architects and designers from across the world are arriving in New Delhi today (16 February) for India Design ID – the country’s largest design event.
The annual four-day showcase described by organisers “as a collective quest of making design more accessible to the masses,” provides a platform for brands and product designers to display their latest creations and for architects and designers to discuss the issues facing the industry, including conservation, heritage and urban development.
Over 100 established and upcoming designers will be participating in the ID Exhibit, held in the city’s NSIC Exhibition Complex.
An ID Symposium will also be held, with architects Ashiesh Shah, Carlo Ratti and Sou Fujimoto among those giving talks.
Finally, a host of video-based chats from high-profile Indian and international design figures will be released to attendees in order "to sense the pulse of evolving trends and creativity.”
These will include Toyo Ito on simplifying architecture, Priya Paul on hospitality design, Sussanne Khan on what makes good design, Sanjay Puri on designing public spaces, Sunil Sethi on Indian vs global design and Theron Carmine De Sousa On the marketability of a hotel design.
