Breakfast at Tiffany's? Flagship store opens striking Blue Box Cafe to make film lover's dreams come true
In a piece of good news for aspiring Holly Golightlys – it is now possible to follow in the footsteps of Audrey Hepburn and have breakfast at Tiffany’s in real life.
Tomorrow (10 November), Tiffany & Co’s flagship jewellery store in New York is opening its first-ever retail dining concept, The Blue Box Cafe, as part of a comprehensive fourth-floor renovation.
The in-house creative team have designed both the new cafe and a department for the store’s luxury Home & Accessories collection in a “playful and unexpected” space that features striking interior décor evoking Tiffany’s craftsmanship and heritage. Parisian design duo Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have created a trio of 15ft (4.6m) high light chains above the staircase leading to the eatery.
Decorated in the store's famous blue tones, finishes like herringbone marble and amazonite stone have been added to create the sense of elegance projected by the 1961 film, which famously begins with Hepburn emerging from a taxi on Fifth Avenue, coffee and croissant in hand, and looking into the store’s windows.
“Both the café and redesign of the Home & Accessories floor reflect a modern luxury experience,” said Reed Krakoff, chief artistic officer of Tiffany & Co. “The space is experimental and experiential – a window into the new Tiffany.”
The simple menu – which will change through the seasons – is a refined take on signature New York dishes. According to Tiffany’s, “the food is as inspiring as the setting is inviting, serving customers who have always dreamed of having Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”
Founded in New York in 1837, Tiffany & Co is one of the world’s most famous jewellers and houses of design.
